I have realized in the past 24 hours just how much food is important to the recovery process.
For reasons that would cross the line into TMI, I was on a liquid diet yesterday. Luckily, it was a fairly light day in terms of training as my long ride was Saturday and today I had the day off from training. Usually, after a workout I listen to my body about what it wants to eat–I have some pretty distinct cravings whether sweet, salty or beef. Yesterday, I had no real choice. I did have a good amount of chicken broth to try and replenish the lost salt, but other than that it was gatorade and water. When I woke up this morning I felt like crap for the first time since I began training for the Ironman. Don’t get me wrong, I have had aches and pains (some pretty bad) and I have been tired for sure, but that muscle cramping pain has been pretty non-existent, especially the day after. So either I kicked it into high gear in training this weekend or food is really that important to the recovery process.
And with that, I’m hungry and it’s time for dinner so catch ya later!
